Vietnam provides medical masks for some African countries

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed his thanks to Angola for supporting the return home of Vietnamese citizens from that country; and confirmed that Vietnam would provide medical masks for some African countries, including Angola, to help ease the difficulties caused by COVID-19.

He made the statement during his reception for Angola’s Ambassador to Vietnam Agostinho Andre De Carvalho Fernandes on July 20th.

Last month, through the Angolan Embassy in Hanoi, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security also donated medical equipment to the Angola Ministry of Home Affairs.

Angola has reported over 680 COVID-19 cases, with 210 having recovered and 29 fatalities. The country has twice declared a state of emergency and Angola is in the process of social distancing.

Regarding bilateral relations, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to the traditional friendship with Angola, highly appreciating Angola's early support for Vietnam to run for the position of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council term 2020-2021.

As for the trade turnover of only some USD100 million, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister suggested the Angola Ambassador make efforts to develop the bilateral economic and trade relations, corresponding to the political-diplomatic relations.

He praised the two countries’ efforts in preparing the 7th Vietnam – Angola Inter-Governmental Committee which is scheduled in July, in order to review cooperation agreements as well as identify difficulties, obstacles and untapped potentials between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister asked Angola to pay attention to ensuring security and safety for the Vietnamese community, as well as Vietnamese businesses investing in Angola.

Ambassador Andre De Carvalho Fernandes said that since his coming to Vietnam, he had had meetings with Vietnamese ministries, branches and businesses with the goal of continuously strengthening the good traditional friendship with Vietnam, especially in economics, commerce, tourism, security and consular work./.
