Leaders of the Ministries of National Defence of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea have agreed to maintain and promote existing cooperation, focusing on the field of defence industry.
The 9th Vietnam-Republic of Korea Defence Policy Dialogue took place in Hanoi on September 16, under the co-chairmanship of the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien and Korean Vice Minister of National Defence Park Jae-min.

The two sides discussed the security situation in the world, the region and international issues of mutual concern; and discussed bilateral defense cooperation, agreeing to highly appreciate the results achieved from the 8th Dialogue in 2019 up to now, in a number of areas such as exchanging delegations, training staff, cooperating in maritime security, overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines after the war in Vietnam, and consulting and supporting each other on multilateral forums.
The two leaders agreed that in the coming time, the two countries will continue to maintain and promote the achieved results, focusing on strengthening cooperation in defence industry, overcoming post-war consequences, ensuring maritime security, activities related to UN peacekeeping, COVID-19 prevention and control, and coordinating activities at forums within the multilateral framework, especially cooperation mechanisms led by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
After the dialogue, Vietnam’s Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang received Korean Vice Minister of National Defence Park Jae-min, during which he highly appreciated the results of the dialogue and the outcomes of cooperation between the two defence ministries over the past time.
He also expressed his hope that the two sides would continue to further strengthen the friendship, and effective and practical cooperation in many fields in the coming time.
The first Vietnam-Republic of Korea Defence Policy Dialogue at the Deputy Defence Minister level was held in March 2012 in Hanoi./.
