According to Ambassador Thach, since 1992, Vietnam and Ukraine have regularly held political consultations; established bilateral cooperation mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic and Scientific-Technological Cooperation, the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee on Military-Technical Cooperation; and signed more than 40 bilateral cooperation agreements. This is an important legal basis to promote the cooperation between Vietnam and Ukraine to achieve positive results. In particular, in 2011, the two countries signed a Joint Statement on the establishment of a comprehensive partnership, bringing the Vietnam-Ukraine relationship to a new height. Accordingly, the two countries exchanged many high-level delegations, serving as a basis for strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, science and technology, defense and security, and education and training. Besides, Vietnam and Ukraine always have close cooperation and mutual support in international forums.

There is a large overseas Vietnamese community in Ukraine, with about 7,000 people, who make active contributions to this country’s socio-economic development and are highly appreciated by the Ukrainian government and people.

Two-way trade is still growing year by year. The two countries have many potentials and strengths that can complement each other. The 15th session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation (January 25, 2021) agreed to build a favorable legal framework for the exchange of goods, especially in goods and services. Accordingly, the two countries will start the FTA negotiation process, creating a premise for further promoting economic-trade relations.

In 2022, the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine will focus on strongly promoting cultural diplomacy activities, the most prominent of which is the project to build a Vietnamese Cultural and Natural Garden at the National Botanical Garden of Ukraine. This will be the convergence of Vietnamese culture in Ukraine.

Talking about activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties, Ambassador Thach stressed that the Embassy will focus on promoting cultural diplomatic activities, including organizing exhibitions of paintings by Ukrainian artists drawing about Vietnam, in at least 4 major cities of Ukraine (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv); opening the first items of the Vietnam Cultural and Natural Garden at the National Botanical Garden of Ukraine; republishing Luc Van Tien's poetry collection in Ukrainian and organizing a workshop on Nguyen Dinh Chieu on the 200th anniversary of his birth; and organizing Vietnam Day in Ukraine.

In addition, the Embassy also plans to organize local delegations to survey and sign cooperation agreements; and hold the Vietnam-Ukraine Business Forum and a number of other seminars to share information, introduce and connect partners of the two countries to promote trade growth./.
