VND91 billion from capital city to natural disasters-affected provinces

(CPV) – During a meeting held on December 8, leaders of Hanoi presented assistance worth VND91 billion to 12 central and Central Highlands localities affected by recent floods and storms.

Accordingly, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue and Chairwoman of the city Fatherland Front Nguyen Lan Huong presented Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue with VND10 billion each; Binh Dinh, Kon Tum and Quang Binh with VND7 billion each; and Nghe An, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Gia Lai with VND5 billion each.

Being informed of the natural disaster situation in the regions, on October 13, at the 17th Hanoi Party Congress, the city launched a program encouraging all the residents to support the central region, collecting initial donation of VND312 million. On the same day, the city earmarked VND7 billion to assist central residents to overcome the difficulties caused by the 6th storm. On October 22, the city continued to assist Ha Tinh and Quang Binh with VND1 billion each.

Donations have been organized across agencies and units in response to the direction of the city Party and the call of the city Fatherland Front. Additionally, agencies and localities sent delegations to visit and support central residents, including the city public security with assistance of VND4.1 billion, the Hanoi Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union with VND2.5 billion both in cash and goods, the city Farmers’ Association with VND700 million, and the city Red Cross with over VND11 billion.

Addressing the meeting, Secretary Hue said that central and Central Highlands residents had suffered huge losses in properties and human lives in the destruction of 9 successive storms, floods and landslides. “Millions of residents had to live in shortages while diverse cadres and soldiers sacrificed their lives in helping the people overcome the consequences of the natural disasters,” he said. 

So far, the Vietnam Fatherland Front received support registrations from 203 agencies, businesses and individuals for a capital of over VND110 billion./.
