Promoting image and stimulating tourism demand in Hanoi during off-season

Hanoi is entering the off-season period for tourism, although the number of tourists to the capital since the beginning of the year has reached over 14 million, an increase of 13.7% over the same period in 2023, of which international visitors reached 3.14 million, an increase of 52.6%.

To achieve the goal of welcoming about 26.5 million visitors in 2024, including 5 million international visitors, the capital's tourism industry is actively promoting the destination's image and stimulating domestic tourism demand in Hanoi.

Diversifying activities to attract visitors

With the goal of effectively using and exploiting Hanoi's tourism resources and facilities during the low season, the capital's tourism industry is focusing on attracting domestic tourists to Hanoi. The industry improves the quality of existing tourism products, develops new product groups that are truly high quality, attractive and reasonably priced to meet the new needs and tastes of tourists.

The program "Hanoi people and tourists experience services at Hanoi hotels and resorts" encourages hotels, resorts and travel agencies to build attractive service packages to attract city residents, domestic and international tourists to stay and experience. The Hanoi City Department of Tourism supports hotels and resorts to build and organize tourism products to attract visitors, increase room occupancy rates at tourist accommodation establishments, especially during off-season period.

Travel service businesses, airlines, railways, roads, and tourist destinations to build tour packages to stimulate tourism; support discounts and improve service quality for tourists when participating in tourism services in Hanoi.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital and important events of the city, the Hanoi Tourism industry organizes activities, events, festivals, cooperation programs and tourism promotion.

Specifically, the Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival 2024 at Tran Nhan Tong pedestrian street from August 23-25 will introduce unique and creative products and gifts of Hanoi people to domestic and international tourists. The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival 2024 with the theme "Quintessence of Ao Dai" is expected to take place from October 4-6 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel and satellite locations in the city, to honor the Ao Dai and cultural values of Vietnam and the capital Hanoi.

Earlier, on June 13, the Hanoi City Department of Tourism organized a stimulus program for Hanoians and tourists to experience Hanoi’s 4-5 star hotel services.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism Nguyen Hong Minh said that the capital’s tourism industry has shown many signs of improvement, but there are still many problems and challenges that need to be resolved, such as an unsynchronized system of tourist accommodation facilities which has not met the growth rate and diverse needs of tourists.

At the conference, representatives of 4-5 star hotels in Hanoi said that they offered many policies to stimulate tourism demand since this summer. Specifically, Métropole hotel has a preferential policy for guests booking on weekends, allowing guests to check in at 12:00 pm and check out at 2:00 pm. Marriott hotel offered discounts for families on vacation at a price of 4.5 million a night with many services such as breakfast, afternoon tea, and BBQ experience. Silk Path Hotel offers 15% discount to tourists this summer.

Creating effectiveness for the stimulus program

Aiming to attract tourists to experience at hotels, the Hanoi Department of Tourism recommends that hotels develop programs and product packages to attract domestic tourists to Hanoi during off-peak times; form links and cooperation between management agencies, associations, airlines, travel service businesses, tourist accommodation establishments, transportation companies, and destinations to create synchronization in the development of the city’s tourism products.

To create effectiveness for the stimulus program, the Hanoi Tourism industry implements synchronous and unified solutions, ensuring feasibility and suitability with the actual situation; focusing on implementing groups of tasks and solutions with immediate impact and a long-term policy system that has an impact on promoting sustainable domestic tourism stimulus.

The Hanoi City Department of Tourism organizes specialized conferences to connect, cooperate and promote the image of Hanoi destinations, deploy the Domestic Tourism Stimulus Plan in the city in 2024 to tourism service businesses to share experiences, propose tasks and solutions to remove difficulties for businesses, and a roadmap to promote domestic tourism development in the short and long term.

The Department also organizes connections and cooperation between airlines and travel and transportation businesses and announces tour programs and product packages to stimulate domestic tourism. On the one hand, the Hanoi Department of Tourism introduces destinations and connects destination management units with travel and transportation businesses in the city to promote and introduce new destinations, models and tourism products in localities.

Director of Hanoi City Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang, said that Hanoi is augmenting actions to create a safe, friendly, and civilised tourism environment and ensure visitors’ interests. The department is coordinating with sectors and localities to prevent, detect and deal with wrongdoings and respond to tourists’ opinions in a timely manner./.
