A connection conference has been organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) to bring Vietnamese goods into Big C and Go! supermarkets system in Vietnam and boost shipments to Thailand.

According to the center, Thailand now is the biggest trade partner of Vietnam in ASEAN. Total export and import turnover between the two countries made up about 30% of Vietnam’s total import-export turnover with all ASEAN countries.
Particularly, Vietnam’s export turnover to Thailand accounts for one fifth of total exports to ASEAN. Thailand always remains the biggest export market of Vietnam in the region.
At the conference, Mr. Tran Phu Lu, Deputy Director of ITPC said that over the past time, Vietnam – Thailand relations have been increasing developing in all fields, especially in economics and trade. Vietnam and Thailand are members of many regional and international forums, such as: ASEAN Economic Community and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.
Due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, bilateral trade exchange decreased 12.2% in the first nine months of 2020. Vietnam’s exports to the market also declined 11.9% compared to the same period last year, equivalent to USD3.6 billion. Meanwhile, the country’s imports from Thailand dropped 12.4%, equivalent to USD7.7 billion.
Aiming to assist businesses to minimize negative impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, recover production and business, access, expand and diversify markets, delegates at the event hoped that domestic businesses would grasp opportunities to introduce products, bring their goods into Big C, Go! supermarkets and seek partners to ship goods to Thailand.
On the sidelines, businesses also introduced their products to Thai companies through online platforms, and discussed ways to seek cooperative opportunities and connect to expand markets./.
