One million welfare bags have been delivered to Ho Chi Minh City’s districts and Thu Duc City for allocating to people in need, the City Welfare Center said on August 30.

One million welfare bags for disadvantaged families

Pham Duc Hai, Deputy Head of Ho Chi Minh City's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, talked about distribution of welfare bags on August 30.

On the same day, the city received many essential goods, including vegetables and rice from provinces, cities, businesses and benefactors to support residents, worth nearly VND4.5 billion.

Additional 101,701 welfare bags have also continued to be distributed to districts and Thu Duc City to support people in need. The Center's SOS program also provided 688 gifts and 1,356 milk cartons for emergency relief cases and 34 gifts to visit and encourage retired staff, intellectuals, and front workers.

The Center has also coordinated with volunteer groups to support 2,837 gifts to households; each gift includes rice, cooking oil, eggs, soy sauce, fish sauce, seasoning powder, sugar, oranges, vegetables and milk. In addition, households with young children, pregnant women, or the elderly and sick are also supported with an additional 5 packs of milk.

Up to now, more than 20,000 inn owners have qualified for exempted or reduced rent for 273,728 rooms with an amount of nearly VND159 billion; and 178 good social security models or solutions.

The Ho Chi Minh City COVID-19 Prevention and Control Fund has also received money and goods worth VND3.279 trillion and a vaccine purchase cost of VND307.7 billion./.
