Price index in southern city rises 3.04% in 10 months

Ho Chi Minh City posted a year-on-year rise of 3.04% in the consumer price index (CPI) in the Jan-Oct period, the municipal Statistics Office reported. The index in October increased by 0.65% compared to the previous month.

The office said that food and catering services rose by 0.09% from the previous month, in which the food price index increased by 0.6% and foodstuff soared by 0.12%, with the sharpest reduction seen in cattle meat (0.82%) and the highest increase seen in fresh, dried and processed vegetable (2.34%) due to effect of the weather. 

In addition, price rise was seen in other commodity groups, including beverage and cigarette (0.19%) and housing, electricity and water (0.96%).

Meanwhile, some groups witnessed CPI reductions this month, such as apparel, headgear and footwear down 0.28% due to low shopping, equipment and household utensils down 0.29% thanks to many discount programs, and transport down 0.06%. 

According to the office, the price of gold in October was down 0.83% month-on-month, but the prices in the 10 months were up 29.61% year on year.

The price of US dollars in the month rose slightly by 0.01% month on month, but the average index of the 10 months increased 0.25% year on year./.
