Southern hub to have 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines

From now until the end of the year, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to receive over 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines each month, said Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, during a June 21 press conference on vaccination.

According to Mr. Duong Anh Duc, out of nearly 1 million doses of vaccine given to Vietnam by the Japanese Government, the city has received 836,000 doses. Of which, 30,000 doses were assigned to the Ministry of National Defense for vaccinating the armed forces, and 20,000 doses were assigned to the police force.

Ho Chi Minh City has reserved a sufficient amount of vaccine to inject all workers in export processing zones, industrial parks, and software technology zones, including 40,000 workers in the high-tech park; 20,000 workers in the software technology park and 280,000 workers in export processing and industrial zones.

"Ho Chi Minh City has prepared for the largest vaccination campaign ever since June 19, which is 5 days," added Mr. Duong Anh Duc.

Talking about the largest vaccination campaign in Ho Chi Minh City ever, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the City Department of Health, said that the city had made urgent and thorough preparations for the campaign. “To ensure vaccination safety, the City Department of Health has arranged forces with 946 primary vaccination teams and 59 backup teams, and over 4000 youth union members to participate in support,” he said, adding that each injection team was trained on vaccination safety.

Concerning vaccine sources for Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Duong Anh Duc said the city has two vaccine sources, one from the Government and the other from the city. According to the plan, it is expected that by the end of this year, Vietnam will receive more than 100 million doses of vaccine, Ho Chi Minh City alone will receive about 10% of these.

"Accordingly, from now until the end of the year, the number of vaccines will continuously return to the city. If Ho Chi Minh City receives 10 million doses, on average, the city will have more than 1.5 million doses of vaccine per month,” he said.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City needs 14 million doses of vaccine to give sufficient doses to the city's people The city is also applying all resources to access vaccines to ensure that by the end of the year, two-thirds of the city's people will be vaccinated./.
