Support to COVID-19 prevention and vaccine fund continues in southern hub

From March 20 to June 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front and the city committee on reception and distribution of COVID-19 funds, received over VND310 billion in support of COVID-19 prevention and some VND2.3 trillion in support of the COVID-19 vaccine fund.

On June 16 alone, more than VND21 billion was donated from 57 organizations, businesses and individuals to support COVID-19 prevention work and VND16 billion to the COVID-19 vaccine fund.

From the donation, over the past time, the city committee on reception and distribution of COVID-19 funds has promptly distributed more than VND200 billion, including more than VND100 billion in cash and VND100 billion in goods and medical equipment, to the forces directly involved in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic at hospitals, medical centers, isolation areas and the pandemic prevention forces at the border. The money has also been used to  support the poor and those affected by the pandemic.

In terms of COVID-19 vaccine, on June 15, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam agreed with the proposal of the City People's Committee on the purchase and import of vaccines. The Deputy Prime Minister requested the city to coordinate with the Ministry of Health to ensure the quality of vaccines; and organize the purchase and vaccination in accordance with regulations, thus soon achieving herd immunity.

According to the proposal, the City People's Committee suggested the Government allow businesses in the city to actively negotiate to buy vaccines from prestigious manufacturers and distributors in the world, or import COVID-19 vaccines.

This proposal aims to promptly have enough vaccines for more than 7.2 million people aged 18 or more and more than 1.6 million workers and labourers at businesses and corporations in industrial parks in the city, in the context of the complicated development of the pandemic, with the number of cases reaching more than 1,000./.
