Thu Duc dedicates nearly 20,000 hectares of land for urban construction by 2040

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has signed a decision approving the general planning tasks for Thu Duc city in Ho Chi Minh City until 2040.

The move aims to develop Thu Duc into one of the important centres of knowledge economy, science - technology, and finance of HCM City and the country.

According to the decision, the scope of direct study for planning covers the entire area within the administrative boundary of Thu Duc, with a total area of about 211.56 km2. Meanwhile, the scope of indirect study also includes districts of HCM City and two neighbouring provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong.

The planning aims to propose development orientations suitable to the structure and development orientation of HCM City in order to meet the goal of becoming one of the important economic, scientific - technological and financial centres of the City and country.

The planning is required to meet the city’s socio-economic development strategy; creating feasible conditions for the synchronous implementation of solutions to solve current urban development problems such as population, housing, infrastructure, traffic, environment, and adaptation to climate change on the foundation of digital infrastructure development and transformation.

Thu Duc’s population is expected to reach about 1.5 million people by 2030; about 2.2 million people by 2040, and 3 million people after 2040.

In terms of land scale, urban construction land is expected to be about 18,830ha by 2030; and about 19,994 ha by 2040./.
