HCMC and Australian locality promote cooperation in various fields

At the reception, the Secretary thanked the Australian Government and people for offering timely support in medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He believed that based on the bilateral strategic partnership and the Australia-Vietnam Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy, relations between the two countries will grow considerably in many fields.

At the local level, relations between HCMC and Australian localities are also developing strongly. The city has already signed Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation with four Australian states and regularly received leaders from Australia during their working trips.

Australia now has nearly 800 projects worth over 900 million USD in HCMC, ranking 19th out of 116 countries and territories investing in the city.

According to Mr. Nen, the cooperation potential between HCMC and South Australia remains huge, especially in fields of the city’s interest and South Australia’s strengths, like education, manufacturing, innovation, renewable energy and climate change adaptation.

For her part, Governor of South Australia Frances Adamson said mutual support in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic showed the solidarity and effective cooperation between the two Governments and peoples, and the strategic partnership as well.

South Australia is now home to about 2,000 Vietnamese students and ready to cooperate with HCMC, introduce universities and offer all possible support to Vietnamese students, she said.

She said that South Australia is willing to partner with HCMC in climate change response, water resource management and renewable energy, adding that the state is committed to raising the cooperation between the two localities and the two nations to greater heights./.
