(CPV) - Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City plans to develop logistics into a key economic sector by 2045 with high competitive capacity in the region and the world.

With its central role in the Southern key economic region and the whole country, Ho Chi Minh City is home to a large amount of produced and consumed goods. In addition, the city has a geographical advantage being located between the North-South and East-West traffic axes, so it has become a center for domestic goods circulation and import and export for the southern provinces. With its special advantages in international trade and transportation, the city has an ideal position to become the logistics center of the southern region and the whole country.

Currently, the city is leading in the logistics development index, and more than 70% of the country’s logistics enterprises are concentrated in HCM City and neighboring localities in the Southern Key Economic Zone. The logistics industry now contributes about 9% to the city’s GRDP. Accordingly, the city will focus on transforming and applying green logistics in the supply chain to help transport goods effectively while minimizing emissions and pollution, considering this one of the prerequisites for development, integration, helping businesses increase competitiveness and sustainable growth. At the same time, priority will be given to implementing projects applying 4.0 technology, high-tech, digital transformation and green transformation, using renewable energy and applying environmental protection measures.

By 2030, the city aims to develop logistics into an industry with an important position and role in the city’s economy on the basis of maximizing opportunities in global supply chains; promoting the formation of green, modern supply chains and gradually participating in the global supply chain, meeting the needs of international economic integration and developing a connection network.

With a vision to 2045, the city strives to develop logistics into a spearhead economic sector with high added value and high competitive capacity in the region and the world, promoting Vietnam’s advantages in the global value chain.

Regarding specific goals, by 2030, the contribution ratio of the logistics service industry to GRDP will be over 8.5%; the growth rate of logistics service revenue of local enterprises will be 15-20% a year; the outsourcing rate of logistics services will reach over 60%; contributing to reducing the ratio of logistics costs nationwide compared to national GDP by about 12-15%.

By 2045, the contribution ratio of the logistics service industry to GRDP will over 12%, the growth rate of logistics service revenue of local enterprises will be from 10% to 12% a year; the outsourcing rate of logistics services will be over 70%; contributing to reducing the ratio of logistics costs nationwide compared to national GDP by about 10-12%.
