The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued a plan to implement the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program in 2023.

The plan aims to implement social security policies and solutions to support poverty reduction in the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program with the aim of reducing the rate of poor and near-poor households, fulfilling the goal of the city’s Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program in 2023.

The plan is considered a basis for assessing the results of the implementation of the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program in 2021 - 2025; contributing to the goal of preventing and controlling the COVID-19 epidemic, other diseases and socio-economic development in the city.

The city has proposed programs, policies and solutions to support poor households, near-poor households and households recently surpassing the near-poor standard, to contribute to supporting households to improve and increase income, and reduce poverty.

Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen said that in the 2015-2020 period, the poverty standards of HCM City were 2-2.5 times higher than the national level.

He asked the administrations at all levels and all sectors to apply comprehensive, drastic, and effective and breakthrough measures to carry out the sustainable poverty reduction program in the 2021-2025 period.

The whole political system should continue to consider sustainable poverty reduction as an important and regular task, he said, stressing the need to further promote the tradition of mutual support among the community, while mobilizing resources from the society and all economic sectors, along with the State budget for the work.

In 2025, HCM City aims to have no poor household following the national poverty standards, and under 0.5% in the rate of poor households in line with the city’s standards.

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, in 2022, together with economic recovery and development programs, party committees, authorities, fronts, and member organizations always pay attention to and well implement social security programs. The city’s "For the Poor" Fund at all levels has received more than 191 billion VND.

Since then, the city saw 62 houses built and 217 charity houses repaired; awarded 5,941 Nguyen Huu Tho scholarships; donated more than 150 vehicles to school; 167 means of livelihood and hundreds of thousands of gifts for policy families, poor households, near-poor households and households in difficult circumstances with a total care budget of more than 132 billion VND.

These results have contributed practically to the implementation of the National Target Program for sustainable poverty reduction in the city.

Apart from direct support policies from the State, in the process of implementing the sustainable poverty reduction program, the city has formed self-management models and self-management groups to help each other escape poverty. Through these models, many poor and near-poor households have received vocational support, capital support, and instructions on how to raise livestock and crops to escape poverty./.
