Ho Chi Minh city, EU cooperate on investment promotion

Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, on March 15th held a reception for Ambassador Bruno Angelet, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, in which some cooperative programs between the EU and Ho Chi Minh city were discussed.

During the reception, Chairman Phong appreciated EU support for the city in Metro No. 2, the project on dredging Soai Rap River, and projects on agricultural cooperation and climate change, showing his desire that the EU would promote cooperative activities with Vietnam in general and with Ho Chi Minh in particular.

He thanked Ambassador Bruno Angelet for ideas that help Ho Chi Minh city further complete policies on improving investment environment, confirming that he supported the building of a regular dialogue mechanism with the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EUROCHAM) to tackle any possible obstacles for EU investors.

Ambassador Bruno Angelet said that EU attached great importance to developing cooperative relations with Vietnam and it is now one of the 3 leading trade partners of Vietnam, ranking 5th in terms of investment into Vietnam. EU members hope to become the biggest investors in Vietnam in the future, especially in Ho Chi Minh city and surrounding localities, according to the ambassador.

Showing his impression of the city’s continuous progress to become one of the 10 most dynamic cities of the world, Ambassador Bruno Angelet expressed his hope that the city would continue to complete its policies towards foreign investors, and pay more attention to issues relating to intellectual property protection and food safety so that the city would become a destination for EU member countries.

He added that EU would be willing to share experience and support the city in developing alternative energy and green energy, including the construction of green buildings and the effective use of energy./.
