On November 10, Homero Acosta Álvarez, Secretary of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State of Cuba who is leading a delegation on a visit to the city, was received by Vice Secretary of Da Nang Party Committee and Chairman of the City’s People’s Council Luong Nguyen Minh Triet.
During the reception, Mr. Triet expressed his delight at the good and increasingly solid development of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cuba; confirming that Da Nang always attaches importance to developing cooperative relations in many fields with Cuba, as demonstrated by the visit to Cuba of the leaders of the Da Nang City Party Committee in 2016 and 2018.
Cuba has always given affection and attention to Vietnam, both in the past war period and in the current period of national construction and development. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Cuba donated medicines and medical equipment and sent medical experts to Vietnam to participate in the fight against the pandemic.
Besides, the leader of Da Nang City also said that cooperation between Da Nang and Cuban organizations and localities is currently quite limited, and is not commensurate with the traditional friendship between the two countries. Up to now, Da Nang city has not established official cooperative relations with any Cuban localities.
“Da Nang wishes to cooperate with Cuba in health, science, education, sports, culture, information technology, clean agriculture and some other industries,” he said, adding that the city also wants to strengthen people-to-people exchanges to improve understanding about the culture, people, customs and traditions of the two nations.
He expressed his hope that Mr. Homero Acosta Álvarez and the delegation will support the promotion of cooperation and development of Da Nang city with Cuban localities, and enhance bilateral trade exchanges, creating conditions for businesses to invest and cooperate with the city.
For his part, Mr. Homero Acosta Álvarez showed his pleasure at witnessing with his own eyes the cause of socialist construction in Vietnam, and highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in the renewal process under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Recalling the special friendship between the two countries built by President Ho Chi Minh and leader Fidel Castro, he highly appreciated the impressive socio-economic development of Da Nang City, and affirmed that in the coming time, he will continue to promote the cooperation relationship between Cuban localities and Da Nang City, especially in the field of trade and business connection./.
