On June 9, a delegation of Laos’ Se Kong Province led by Leklay Sivilay, member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of the province, paid a working visit to Da Nang City.
During the reception by Nguyen Van Quang, Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee member and Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, the two sides’ leaders introduced their potential and strengths in socio-economic development, and exchanged bilateral cooperation opportunities between the two localities. Over the past years, the two sides have sent diverse high-ranking delegations to each other; and signed 5 memorandums of understanding in diverse areas. Most recently, in 2016, the delegation of Da Nang City visited Se Kong Province and signed a memorandum of understanding between the two localities for the period 2018-2022 with a total support budget of VND28.2 billion.
On the basis of memorandums of understanding and agreements, from 2002 to 2012, Da Nang City supported Se Kong Province with many projects in the fields of agriculture, transportation, sports training and human resource training with a total cost of more than VND13 billion. By the end of 2012, all commitment programs between the city and Se Kong Province were fully implemented. Da Nang city has also supported Sekong Province in many important fields such as irrigation, construction of hydroelectric pumping stations, planning of Dakchueng District, animal food ground stations, livestock and plant breeding.
In the field of cooperation and support for development of education and training, since 2003, Da Nang has received hundreds of international students from Se Kong Province. In 2009, Da Nang supported the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Se Kong with USD50,000 to build a school. Additionally, the Sekong Provincial School of Politics, sponsored by Da Nang with VND10 billion and built in 2011, has been operating very effectively so far. Da Nang also supported 10 officials from the Department of Education and Sports of Se Kong Province to exchange and gain experience in Da Nang; and sent 2 teachers to teach Vietnamese for free at the Vietnamese Language Center of Se Kong Province.
According to Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang, in the coming time, Da Nang will continue to provide comprehensive support to Sekong Province to help the locality boost socio-economic development, stabilize and gradually improve people's living standards./.
