Foreign Minister attends funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

Authorized by State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London, the UK, on September 19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.

Earlier, on September 10, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son went to the home of the UK Ambassador to Vietnam to write in a book of mourning and offer condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

He recorded mourning for Queen Elizabeth II; emphasized the Queen's appreciation for the good feelings, and the support of the Queen for the promotion of cooperative relations between Vietnam and the UK. He also conveyed his deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the Government and the entire British people.

On September 9, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent his condolences to King Charles III, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent condolences to British Prime Minister Liz Truss, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent condolences to the Speaker of the UK Senate John McFall and the Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle.

According to the announcement of the British Royal Family, the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Westminster Abbey at 11am on September 19 (17:00 Hanoi time). The ceremony is expected to last an hour with the participation of more than 2,000 guests, including many foreign leaders and officials.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, at the age of 96, after reigning more than 70 years. The series of events during the Queen's national funeral took place over 10 days, ending with a funeral at Westminster Abbey in London on September 19./.
