Ho Chi Minh City strengthens cooperation with UK

Welcoming the working visit of Mr. Mark Garnier in the year when Vietnam and the UK celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Mr. Mai emphasized that the city is a locality that enjoys the results from the good development in Vietnam - UK relations.

He said that in the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City and the UK need to further promote cooperation activities in the field of trade and investment, focusing on sharing experiences, building legal mechanism, as well as implementing the project to build the financial center of Ho Chi Minh City; established the City's Innovation Center, at first in the fields of healthcare, research, production of drugs and preparations, and medical supplies.

He emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City wishes to join the UK in boosting trade and investment promotion activities between businesses to soon complete the target of trade turnover of USD1 billion between the two sides during the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UK. “The city will coordinate with the UK Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and UK partners to soon realize the agreements between the two sides, contributing to the consolidation and development of the Vietnam - UK relationship,” he added.

Mr. Mark Garnier expressed his impression of the dynamism and development potential of Vietnam, as well as of Ho Chi Minh City; and affirmed that he will make efforts to promote and further strengthen the cooperation relationship in trade and investment between the UK and Vietnam, as well as between the UK and Ho Chi Minh City.

He stated that British businesses have experience and are always interested and ready to cooperate with Ho Chi Minh City in implementing the plan to build the city into a globally competitive financial center. In addition, the UK also wants to work with Ho Chi Minh City to support businesses of the two sides, and strengthen cooperation to promote trade and investment.

Agreeing with the cooperation proposals of the city's leaders, he emphasized that British businesses are well aware of the city's potential and needs in the fields of healthcare, drug research, and pharmaceuticals, thus wishing to promote cooperation with the city in this field. In addition, the UK is willing to cooperate and support the city in training high-quality human resources, serving the banking, financial and healthcare sectors, making practical contributions to promoting trade and investment relations between the two sides, as well as the cooperation relationship between the UK and Vietnam./.
