Vietnam highly appreciates cooperation and support of IFAD

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc highly appreciated the cooperation and support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for Vietnam over the past four decades, thereby actively contributing to poverty reduction and rural development in Vietnam, particularly in mountainous and especially difficult areas.

On November 23, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc received Mr. Ambrosio Barros, Country Representative of the IFAD,  who presented a credentials, starting his working term in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Ngoc affirmed that agricultural development is the backbone of the country's economy and society and plays a very important role in ensuring food security and livelihoods for people. In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to restructure the agricultural sector in association with transforming growth models and building new rural areas.

In that context, Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc suggested that IFAD give priority to supporting innovation and digital transformation in agriculture; building a sustainable, transparent and responsible food system; developing smart agriculture, adapting to climate change; and successfully implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Vietnam. He affirmed that Vietnam is willing to contribute to the joint efforts of the international community in the context of the risk of a global food crisis spreading.

Mr. Ambrosio Barros expressed his honor to undertake the mission in Vietnam, which is his first working location in Asia, and affirmed his determination to contribute further to the development of Vietnam.

He shared IFAD efforts having been implemented in Vietnam, including projects on smart agriculture and climate change adaptation carried out in many provinces from the central to the south and the Mekong Delta region.

The IFAD country representative affirmed that the fields of cooperation proposed by Vietnam are also IFAD's priorities, adding he hoped that the ministries, branches, localities and relevant parties of Vietnam will make joint efforts to implement the projects.

He also acknowledged Vietnam's desire, as an active member of the international community, to contribute to efforts to ensure global food security, in line with its capabilities, confirming that the IFAD is ready to support connection and share experience./.
