Vietnam, Laos develop strategic direction on labor-society cooperation

On November 30, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam received Lao Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Baykham Khattiya on the occasion of attending the Vietnam – Laos special ministerial conference on labor, social welfare and human resource development.

The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the Lao Party, State and people on achievements made in nearly 4 decades of conducting the doi moi; and firmly believed that the Lao Party, State and people will overcome current challenges, and build a peaceful, independent, democratic country imbued with national identity, unity and prosperity.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the cooperation between Vietnam and Laos over the past time has continued to develop positively and firmly, becoming more and more in-depth and comprehensive in many fields of politics - diplomacy; defence security; economy; education, human resource development and vocational training; medical; culture - society; information communication; natural resources - environment; and science and technology, contributing to the stability and development of each country.

Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation, Minister Baykham Khattiya said that, although affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, over the past time, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam and the Lao Minister of Labor and Social Welfare have been very flexible in implementing and promoting cooperation, achieving some positive results.

The two sides have continued to maintain cooperation in the fields of labor, employment, social security and people with meritorious services; develop human resources; carry out many cooperation activities from short-term training, ASEAN skills exam preparation to equipment support, and long-term training from university level.

On November 28-29, in Quang Ninh province, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Lao Minister of Labor and Social Welfare held the Vietnam – Laos special ministerial conference on labor, social welfare and human resource development on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The conference evaluated the results achieved in the implementation of cooperation programs between the two ministries over the past time; shared experiences and policies on human resource development and social security of the two countries; and signed ministerial-level agreements in the field of human resource development.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam wished that the two ministries would continue to study and develop strategic orientations on labor-society cooperation suitable to the current context of each country, region and the world; share experiences, support each other on laws, policies and programs on labor market management, employment, migrant workers, as well as other social security issues; cooperate to improve skills, support participation in ASEAN and world skills exams; and strengthen and closely coordinate information exchange, policy dialogue, consultation and mutual support at world and regional forums./.
