That was the affirmation of Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Van Doanh at a workshop to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (January 30), which was held online on January 30 by Russia’s St. Petersburg’s External Relations Department.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh expressed his wish that St. Petersburg, Russian partners and people's organizations of the two countries continue to closely cooperate with VUFO, the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association, and VUFO member organizations in carrying out diverse people-to-people exchange activities to attract the participation of people, scientists, businesses and young generations of the two countries, helping to create more new vitality and energy for the traditional friendship that has been painstakingly cultivated by generations of leaders and people of the two countries, contributing to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries for the common benefit of the Vietnamese and Russian people; and for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and in the world.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh, the Soviet Union was one of the first countries in the world to recognize and officially establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 30, 1950, laying the foundation for strong friendship and good cooperative relations between the two countries. The past 73 years have written beautiful pages in the friendship between the two nations. The people of the two countries have always accompanied and stood side by side, from the battle to defend Moscow in the winter of 1941 to the struggle for national liberation and reunification of the Vietnamese people, as well as in the cause of building, protecting and developing Vietnam in the future.

History has showed that the relationship between Vietnam and the Soviet Union, and with the Russian Federation today, has always been warm, reliable and has overcome all the tests of time and the fluctuations of the times. The two countries have become each other's most important and reliable partners and have made great achievements in all fields of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

On November 30, 2021, the joint statement on the vision of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation to 2030 signed by the two countries once again affirmed that strengthening strategic trust is the foundation for the expansion and strengthening of bilateral cooperation, demonstrating the determination of both countries in opening a new stage of cooperation development in all fields, including people-to-people exchanges, helping to elevate the relationship between the two countries in the new situation, and ensure that the relationship continues to develop well in the future.

"It can be said that in every development step of Vietnam and the Russian Federation, there are always imprints of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Russia. This is an invaluable asset that the leaders and people of the two countries are determined to preserve and promote it, which is the premise for the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia to go deeper, more practical and effective," said Mr. Doanh.

At the workshop, the delegates focused on highlighting the meaning and importance of the relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation over the past 7 decades. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries' relations have developed comprehensively in the following fields: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.

The workshop was one of the activities within the framework of the project "Celebrating the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's arrival in the Russian Federation - A solid foundation of friendship and cooperation". This was a meaningful event to review the past journey of important achievements that the two countries have made and jointly propose new measures to further develop the Vietnam - Russian Federation comprehensive strategic partnership.

As planned, the inauguration ceremony of President Ho Chi Minh's monument in St. Petersburg will take place in June 2023, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Uncle Ho's arrival in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg)./.
