As the Philippines has been Vietnam's largest rice consumption market for many years, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam is always ready to ensure a stable rice supply to the Philippines; and expressed his wish that the Philippine Government continue to give priority to importing Vietnamese rice and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese rice exporters.

On May 9, he received Mr. Meynardo Montealegre, Ambassador of the Philippines to Vietnam.
At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son showed his delight at the good development of the Vietnam-Philippines strategic partnership over the past time.
In the context that Vietnam and the Philippines have reopened, the Minister suggested the two sides work together to promote cooperation in various fields, including the exchange of visits and contacts at all levels, organization of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, increased trade, promotion of cultural cooperation, tourism and cooperation between localities of the two countries.
He suggested the Ambassador discuss with the relevant agencies of the Philippines a number of measures to support the rice import and export activities of the two countries in the coming time, including enhancing exchange of market information, policies related to rice import and export, and restriction of trade barriers.
Ambassador Meynardo Montealegre emphasized that he would continue to make efforts to contribute to promoting Vietnam-Philippines relations, and affirmed that he would notify relevant domestic agencies of Minister Bui Thanh Son's proposals to take appropriate measures for facilitating stable rice trade between the two countries.
On this occasion, Ambassador Meynardo Montealegre wished Vietnam a successful hosting of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games); while Minister Bui Thanh Son wished the Philippines a successful organization of the General Election (May 9, 2022)./.
