ALOV strengthens legal support for overseas Vietnamese

The Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese (ALOV) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) in Hanoi to support ALOV to perform the function of monitoring and counter-argument on the implementation and development of the guidelines, laws and regulations of the Party and State related to overseas Vietnamese.

The signing ceremony, held on November 29, also supports overseas Vietnamese on guidelines, policies, laws and regulations related to the rights and responsibilities of overseas Vietnamese in investment activities in Vietnam as well as issues related to identity, property and nationality.

According to the cooperation agreement, VBF will coordinate with ALOV in fulfilling its responsibilities and contributing ideas to building the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations related to overseas Vietnamese.

VBF also supports ALOV in performing functions and duties as prescribed by law and the association's Charter so that ALOV can link overseas Vietnamese activities with the homeland; and carry out specific cases as proposed by ALOV for overseas Vietnamese who have demand for business, investment, technology transfer and other activities in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law.

According to the agreement, ALOV will coordinate with ABF in establishing an information channel so that the federation gathers a team of lawyers to disseminate the Vietnamese law to overseas Vietnamese living, studying and working in foreign countries; and coordinate with VBF to meet and discuss with overseas Vietnamese in Vietnam or abroad to receive information and needs for legal support.

ALOV also introduces the needs of using legal services of individuals and organizations to law practice organizations and lawyers.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VBF President Do Ngoc Thinh affirmed that, in the spirit of serving the community and society, contributing to the development of the country, on the basis of the guidelines and policies and laws of the Party and State, VBF are ready to meet the needs proposed by ALOV.

He said that Vietnam currently has about 17,000 lawyers, about 2,000-3,000 of them are capable of providing international investment advice.

Ambassador Nguyen Phu Binh, ALOV Chairman, also believed that the cooperation between the two sides is a new step to bring effective support to overseas Vietnamese./.
