Community Tet festival held for overseas Vietnamese in India’s Chennai

The Vietnamese Embassy in India coordinated with the Vietnamese Association in Chennai and the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Tamil Nadu to organize the Community Tet festival 2023 in Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu State on January 15.

The program was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai and nearly 100 Vietnamese people living and working in Chennai.
Overseas Vietnamese in Chennai were very excited to meet and gather to welcome the Lunar New Year Festival after a period of interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On this occasion, Ambassador Hai shared about the strong development of the country over the past year and Vietnam-India relations. He also conveyed New Year's greetings to the Vietnamese community in Chennai.
Mr. Hai stressed that the work for the overseas Vietnamese in India is a pillar of the Embassy's work. The Embassy has taken care of and supported overseas Vietnamese to work, have stable lives and integrate into the host country, while preserving the national culture, including the Vietnamese language. The embassy will also support overseas Vietnamese in their relations with their homeland, he said.
Also at the event, Ms. Kavitha Dutt, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Chennai, expressed her emotion and honor to be the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Chennai. She expressed her commitment to make efforts together with the Embassy to support overseas Vietnamese here as well as promote trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
At the event, participants enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes on Tet and special musical performances performed by overseas Vietnamese.
Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu State, located in the south of India. It is the third largest industrial and commercial center of India, where the largest number of Vietnamese people live in India./.
