The Vietnamese Embassy in Sri Lanka recently held a meeting with the Vietnamese community across Sri Lanka to meet and update the specific situation of citizens on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Vietnamese Embassy (October 15, 2011 - October 15, 2022) and towards Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20).

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the embassy, with the participation of more than 100 overseas Vietnamese and families living, studying and working in Sri Lanka, and all members of the Embassy.

The event is one of the embassy's activities to implement the Politburo's Conclusion No. 12 on August 12, 2021 on overseas Vietnamese work in the new situation. It emphasizes the implementation of comprehensive measures to care for and support overseas Vietnamese, especially those in difficult areas, so that they can stabilize their lives, develop economically, comply with the law and integrate smoothly into the host society.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ho Thi Thanh Truc said that in 2022 in the context of the world situation with many unpredictable changes, Sri Lanka is at the most difficult moment in history since it won the independence in 1948, as it suffered successively from the aftermath of the attacks on Easter in 2019 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Especially since March 2022, difficulties such as economic crisis, lack of essential necessities, medicine, electricity, and petrol have caused political and social instability. This has directly impacted the daily life of the Vietnamese community in the host country. Until now, although the political situation has been relatively stable, the impact of the economic crisis is still present, in many places there is still a power cut and the situation of social order and security is increasingly complicated.

The Ambassador also highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity and mutual support of the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka. Over the past time, the Vietnamese community in the host country, in different forms, has made many noble gestures and actions to help each other and the people of Sri Lanka.

The Vietnamese people in general and the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka in particular have donated over 100,000 USD and many other items and objects to support the people of the host country.

Over the past time, the Embassy has regularly paid attention to, kept in contact with, and had timely visits and encouragements to the community. This meeting continues to be an opportunity for the community to strengthen meeting and exchange with each other./.
