First "Independence Cup" Table Tennis Tournament held in Russia

The opening ceremony of the first "Independence Cup" Table Tennis Tournamentof the Vietnamese community in Russia was organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in collaboration with the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia and the Hanoi-Moscow multi-functional complex in Moscow city on August 20.

The tournament aims to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2.

At the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi highly appreciated the initiative of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia and the Hanoi - Moscow multifunctional complex to organize a new playground for the Vietnamese community in Russia, creating opportunities for people to practice sports, strengthen mutual understanding and active local integration.

The tournament attracted the participation of a large number of overseas Vietnamese from many Russian cities. It is hoped that the tournament would take place every year and is a bridge connecting more Vietnamese communities away from home.

According to Mr. Pham QuocToan, representative of the Organizing Committee, the Vietnamese community in Russia loves sports. Besides football, tennis, golf, table tennis also attracts many people. The organizers hope to be able to promote the success from the first tournament to hold the annual event on a much larger scale.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, an athlete competing at the tournament, shared that sports activities are very necessary for the community, especially after COVID-19. The tournament has connected friends far from home. This is also an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding between Vietnamese people who are doing business, living and studying in Russia.

The tournament welcomed the participation of more than 30 athletes from Moscow and other provinces. In addition, it also attracted large crowds of fans to watch and cheer on the athletes./.
