This is an annual tournament organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium and Luxembourg - Vietnam Mission to the European Union (EU), in collaboration with Ms. Chris Geyskens, a businesswoman, and President of the Belgian Branch of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Hoi An. The tournament aims to raise funds to support Agent Orange victims in Hoi An ancient town.

The tournament this year attracted about 50 amateur golfers, who included overseas Vietnamese, businessmen, civil servants, and diplomats in the host country and some neighboring countries. Within the framework of the program, apart from competition, the management of the Hulencourt golf course also organized an instruction class for those who want to learn to play golf and make acquaintance with this sport.

Ms. Chris Geyskens, a woman with a special love for Vietnam, said that in 2015, the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Hoi An agreed to establish a branch in Belgium and she was invited to be the President for the purpose of contributing to mobilizing organizations, individuals and benefactors in Belgium and other countries to help the victims in Hoi An. Since then, she has had the initiative to organize an annual golf tournament named the Vietnamese Ambassador Cup in Belgium, to raise funds for the Association for Victims of Agent Orange in Hoi An.

In addition to the Golf Tournament, Ms. Chris also organizes charity sales programs to increase revenue to help victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Head of the Vietnam Mission to the EU Nguyen Van Thao emphasized that the golf tournament is a highly humane activity and encourages overseas Vietnamese to look toward their homeland and country, attracting Belgian friends who love Vietnam to join hands to support Vietnamese people who are war victims, to overcome difficulties and rise up in their lives.

The 2021 golf tournament raised more than 7,000 EUR. Since 2015, the total amount from this tournament has been 30,715 EUR. The above amount has been used to build 13 houses, support 16 households to develop their economy, award scholarships, buy medicines and organize a number of events to welcome the Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival for child victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin of the third generation.

This year, in addition to raising funds to support Agent Orange/Dioxin victims, the golf tournament also promoted the image of the country and people of Vietnam; at the same time, contributing to enhancing trade exchange and investment promotion of Belgian and European enterprises into Vietnam./.
