Overseas Vietnamese Association in RoK’s Jeonnam-Gwangju celebrates 11th anniversary

The Overseas Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam-Gwangju of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on June 12 organized a ceremony to mark its 11th anniversary at the Gwangju International Center.

The ceremony was attended by more than 60 Vietnamese and Korean delegates from Gwangju city and localities in Jeonnam province of RoK.

In 11 years, the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam-Gwangju has organized many activities such as: Charity program to build a football field and give gifts to poor children in Bac Giang province; organizing the 1st Jeonnam Gwangju Regional Sports Festival; accompanying futsal tournament of Naju city; Signing MOU with the largest eye hospital in Gwangju city; the 5th Cultural Festival in Gwangju – Jeonnam; organizing meetings, exchanges and connections with the Nanum Literary Association of RoK and Hai Phong Poet Association; supporting free masks for the community; and the program calling for donations to support the Central region of Vietnam.

Particularly, in 2022, the association signed a cooperation agreement with the Multicultural Family Support Center of Jangheung district in Jeonnam province; opening three free Vietnamese classes for children in Jeonnam-Gwangju (two semesters); and an MOU signing ceremony with Seoul Woori Ai Dental Clinic (20% discount on medical examination and treatment fees for members).

In the near future, the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Jeonnam-Gwangju will sign cooperation agreements with obstetrics and gynecology hospitals in Gwangju, general hospital in Naju, general hospital in Mokpo to bring benefit members; and organize a Cultural Festival to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam – RoK relationship; giving Tet gifts to people in the area facing many difficulties. At the same time, the association also continues to recruit new members and conduct activities related to members such as issuing member cards, sharing information on benefits, exchanging and uniting the community.

At the marking ceremony, the cooperation signing ceremony between the association and the UCC Cultural Center also took place. UCC is a well-known non-governmental, non-profit cultural institute in Gwangju, which aims to support migrants, international students and foreign workers, mainly South Asians, West Asians, Central Asians, such as from India, Nepal, and Pakistan.

The cooperation between the association and the UCC Cultural Center aims to share information, promote images and link in related cultural programs and events, in which UCC supports expense to the association in the region and can issue a certificate for association members who join in voluntary activities to earn points for visa conversion when needed.

At the celebration, an opening ceremony of a Vietnamese class for children of association members was also held./.
