Overseas Vietnamese in RoK meet to welcome New Year 2020

The Overseas Vietnamese in the Republic of Korea (RoK) organized an event to welcome the New Year of 2020 on December 22nd in Seoul, with the participation of nearly 500 overseas Vietnamese people living, working or studying there, and RoK friends.

According to the organizing board, this is the first time the association has organized such a large-scale event.

The event is an opportunity for overseas Vietnamese in the RoK to meet and exchange on the occasion of year end to help them ease their nostalgia, and also aims to review the operation of the association in 2019 and work out the operational direction for the new year as well as to show gratitude to sponsors, who support significant activities of the association over the past time.

At the event, the representative from the association presented certificates of merit to branches which organized and actively participated in activities of the community, and children with good study result from multi-cultural families.

The participants enjoyed dishes which are usually prepared on the Lunar New Year Festival of Vietnam such as “Chung” cake, pork-pie and sausage. 

Over the past year, the association organized various significant activities attracting a large number of participants, such as Vietnamese cultural festival in the RoK.

Specially, the association has successfully organized a class for children from Vietnam-RoK multicultural families across the RoK to help them remember their origin and preserve the traditional culture of Vietnam.

In addition, the association also organized other significant activities such as supporting calamity victims in Vietnam’s Central region, Central Highland and Southern region.

Activities of the association have drawn participation of a large number of people, creating cohesion and affirming the position of the Overseas Vietnamese in RoK, contributing to improving the image of the country and people of Vietnam in eyes of RoK and international friends, as well as preserving and developing the good Vietnam – RoK relations. 

The Vietnamese community in RoK is now nearly 200,000 people./.
