Vietnam Days held in Saint Petersburg

“Vietnam Days in Saint Petersburg" was recently organized by the government of Saint Petersburg of the Russian Federation with a series of meaningful activities to mark President Ho Chi Minh's 132nd birthday (May 19, 1890-19/5/2022).

The event also aimed to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, actively promoting Vietnam to local people.

On the sidelines of the Vietnam-Saint Petersburg Tourism Forum, Mr. Vyacheslav Kalganov, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of Saint Petersburg, said that "Vietnam Days in Saint Petersburg" was held from May 13 - 19, with many practical and meaningful activities.

A conference took place on May 13 between two high schools of Saint Petersburg city and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh and Khanh Hoa provinces.

At this event, Russian students told about the Victory Day on May 9 in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people, while Vietnamese students talked about the day of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975) and the historical significance of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7).

On May 16, doctors from Saint Petersburg's Cancer Research and Treatment Center and doctors from cancer hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Khanh Hoa also held an online conference.

During the conference, Russian and Vietnamese doctors exchanged many useful and mutually beneficial experiences in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Vice Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Foreign Affairs Committee said that Vietnamese doctors can come to the cancer center of Saint Petersburg to hone their expertise and share the experiences they have accumulated with other doctors here.

One of the events that caught the attention of the people in Saint Petersburg during the Vietnam Days was the lighting of the Palace Bridge with 600 red and yellow LED bulbs representing the colors of the Vietnamese national flag.

It started at 10h15pm of May 17 at the famous Palace Bridge cross over the Neva River in the city of Saint Petersburg.

The government of Saint Petersburg city said the event will last until the evening of May 20.

Also on May 17, the city government held the 3rd Vietnam-Saint Petersburg Tourism Forum, with the participation of a large number of representatives of relevant agencies and businesses of the two countries to restore the market and tourists flows of each other after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vice Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Foreign Affairs Committee said that "Vietnam Days in Saint Petersburg" was followed by an information technology forum on May 18. After that, a ceremony was held on May 19 to mark the 132th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam.

The city government will hold a flower-laying ceremony at the place where Uncle Ho's statue will be erected, followed by seminars and related events at the Ho Chi Minh Institute under the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Saint Petersburg General University.

On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Foreign Affairs Committee Kalganov said that the city government is preparing to be able to open the statue of Uncle Ho on the occasion of May 19, 2023 or June 30, 2023, on the 100th anniversary Nguyen Ai Quoc setting foot in Petrograd city, now Saint Petersburg./.
