The State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOV) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese and the Vietnamese Buddhist Cultural Center in the Republic of Korea (RoK), organized the "Vietnam-RoK Cultural Exchange” program in Hanoi in the afternoon of November 20.

The program aimed to respond to the day honoring the Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community and towards the 30th anniversary of Vietnam – RoK diplomatic relations (December 22, 1992 - December 22, 2022).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Phu Binh, Chairman of the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese, highly appreciated Vietnamese Buddhist nun Thich Nu Gioi Tanh, in her role as President of the Vietnam Buddhist Association and Director of the Vietnamese Cultural Center in RoK, having devoted her enthusiasm and effort to connecting the Vietnamese communities in RoK and Vietnam, supporting people who are in difficult circumstances, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and actively contributing to the close relationship between the peoples of the two countries through cultural activities and the spread of the Vietnamese language, contributing to building a Vietnam-RoK multicultural society.

According to Mr. Binh, honoring the Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community has a very important meaning in connecting people far from the homeland with the country, as well as being an effective means of strengthening friendship and cooperation with countries around the world.

Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mai Phan Dung said that there are about 200,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in RoK.

In addition, tens of thousands of Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families, along with the wave of commercial investment in recent years, have helped the diplomatic relationship between the two countries become closer and more meaningful.

Towards the 30th anniversary of Vietnam – RoK diplomatic relations, from the beginning of 2022 to now, many cultural, economic and political events as well as Vietnam – RoK cultural exchange have taken place in Vietnam and RoK, while cooperation in culture and global economy has brought a lot of meaning and value, opening up many prospects in the future for the comprehensive development of the two countries.

In the framework of the Vietnam – RoK cultural exchange, many significant activities are organized, such as Vietnam – RoK cultural exchange; talk show on the topic of Vietnam-RoK Culture; presenting a series of reportages in response to "the day honoring Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community"; fashion show of the Vietnamese traditional long dress (Ao dai) and traditional costumes of RoK; performing Vietnamese Buddhist dharma dress; and honoring organizations and individuals who have contributed to the community and society on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-RoK diplomatic relations.

This is an activity with many values and profound humanistic meanings, bearing the imprint of the values of Vietnamese Culture-Vietnamese Buddhist Culture, and raising the status of Vietnamese Buddhism in RoK.

The event is expected to contribute to promoting the cultural, economic and political development of the two countries, tightening the friendly relationship between Vietnam and RoK./.
