In an exchange with the WTO Director General, Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai affirmed that Vietnam persists in the open door policy and international integration, as an active and responsible member of WTO, and always attaches importance to and supports the multilateral trading system with the core of WTO.

The ambassador reiterated Vietnam's commitment to continue active and close cooperation with the WTO Secretariat and other members to promote the work of the WTO, achieving meaningful negotiation results, especially on fisheries subsidy and WTO reform at the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference in June, and fulfilling the obligation of reviewing Vietnam's second trade policy in December.

WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo expressed his impression of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and highly appreciated the open-door guideline, international integration and active participation of Vietnam in the WTO system, as well as world trade in general.

He congratulated Ambassador Mai on her new assignment at the WTO, and as one of the few female ambassadors to the WTO. He also expressed his hope that Vietnam will make positive contributions to the WTO reform process.

Vietnam officially became the 150th member of WTO on January 11th, 2007. After 13 years, the WTO membership has created an equal playground so that Vietnam takes initiative to actively deploy international economic integration, making an important contribution to socio-economic development of the country./.
