Vietnamese community in Slovakia’s Kosice city created favorable conditions to stabilize their lives

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Slovak Republic Nguyen Tuan recently had a trip to Kosice, the second largest city in the east of the country from August 12-14 to meet and work with Mayor Jaroslav Polacek and Deputy Mayor Lucia Gurbalova.

The two sides reiterated the cooperation agreements between Kosice and Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang to jointly seek more practical cooperation prospects.

Mayor Jaroslav Polacek said that the city government has recognized the Vietnamese community as one of Kosice's minority communities since 2013. At the same time, the local government has been interested in creating conditions for the Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives, contributing more to the economic and cultural development of the locality.

Currently, the Vietnamese community has a representative in the city's Ethnic Council. Mr. Jaroslav Polacek praised Vietnamese people for their hard work, good observance of local laws and having a spirit of solidarity and mutual support in life, and second-generation Vietnamese students having good results at secondary school.   

The Ambassador and community representatives thanked the city government for its long-term support, especially for effective cooperation in helping Vietnamese people facing difficulty from Ukraine.

Also within the framework of the trip, the Ambassador visited the Consular Office of Vietnam in Kosice and worked with Honorary Consul Rastislav Sedmak, reviewing the difficulties and advantages in the work of protecting citizens in Eastern Slovakia, set out the focus of citizen protection work in the coming time to protect the interests of the community and further tighten relations with the city government.

On this occasion, the Ambassador attended the Congress of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Kosice.

The congress elected a new Executive Board and built a platform of activities in line with the strong development of the community in recent time, facilitating more practical activities for the benefit of the community.

At the Congress, the Ambassador presented certificates of merit to the Women's Union, the Veterans' Association and the Youth’s Association in Kosice for making valuable contributions to helping Vietnamese people facing difficulty from Ukraine./.
