Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Le Dung emphasized that the opening of the class aimed to help young Vietnamese people of the second and third generations in Austria learn and practice Vietnamese language.

The class is also an environment to exchange in Vietnamese language, building confidence in using Vietnamese with each other in communication and with the Vietnamese community in other countries, he said.

He added that the language is a foundation to help younger Vietnamese generations, who were born and raised in Austria, to learn about the nation of Vietnam, toward their feelings to the homeland, thereby actively participating in activities for expatriates such as homeland spring program and summer camps for overseas Vietnamese youth.

According to the Ambassador, apart from teaching and learning Vietnamese language, cultural activities should be built to create conditions for the students to approach and learn about the traditional culture and raise their patriotism.

Mr. Dung believed that the Vietnamese community in Vienna would respond and encourage their children to join in the class and help to spread Vietnamese learning movement among the Vietnamese community in Austria and desire to disseminate the model to other localities of Austria, especially localities with a large number of Vietnamese people.

Ms. Bui Thanh Hai, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Women’s Union in Austria thanked the Vietnamese Embassy for actively supporting the organization of the class and affirmed the Vietnamese community in Vienna would mobilize their children to participate in the class.

She stressed that the Vietnamese Women’s Union in Austria would accompany the Embassy to maintain the class regularly and effectively.

The Embassy also mobilizes sponsors to establish a study promotion fund to maintain the class on Saturdays at its headquarters./.
