The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) in collaboration with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and the Vietnamese Embassy in France recently organized an event in Paris to connect trade and promote the pepper and spice products of Vietnam on the European market.

The event aims to advertise Vietnam's food industry in the European and international markets, especially to learn and connect more with partners in the French market.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang said that the great interest of businesses for Vietnam's main spice is a huge opportunity for the two sides to directly exchange and meet each other's demands, thereby developing trade between partners.

He affirmed that authorities at all levels of France and Vietnam are ready to support manufacturers and companies of the two countries to well maintain trade flows, as well as the operation of supply chains, mobilizing all efforts to recover after the pandemic and work together for sustainable and even development.

In recent years, Vietnam has become the world's leading pepper producer with a yield of more than 1,200 kg/ha of cultivation, accounting for nearly 30% of world production and 50% of global exports.

According to VPA President Hoang Thi Lien, to sell Vietnamese pepper in supermarkets in France like rice, Vietnam’s sectors need to have more efforts, in which VPA plays a leading role, co-operating with exporters, farmers and manufacturers.

In addition, the role of representative agencies in France such as the Trade Office or the Embassy of Vietnam is also very important, especially in providing information and facilitating close connection with French partners.

France is an important market in the European Union (EU). In terms of export turnover, France is currently ranked 4th position in the region, after Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, but it is a potential market. Vietnam's pepper export market share to France accounts for 10% of the total export market share to the EU.

France is likened to a "filter funnel" because "if Vietnam's large pepper exporters can connect with large French importers and distributors, then in addition to strengthening their brands and products, they can deeper penetrate into the potential EU market".

This is one of the activities in the National Trade Promotion Program Framework 2022, chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The event attracted the participation of nearly 20 large manufacturing and exporting enterprises from Vietnam and 30 spice importers, traders and retailers of France.

The Vietnamese pepper enterprises participating in this delegation are very strong and have good export potential. Many large French importers and wholesalers also participated in the event. This will be the time for the Vietnam Pepper sector to invest and develop the brands in France and Europe.

On this occasion, the VPA attended the Sial Paris International Food Fair 2022 from October 15-19.

Attending the fair is a good opportunity to promote the national brand image for Vietnam's food industry in the EU market in particular and in the world in general, including pepper and spices.

Attending the fair, VPA introduced products of 8 businesses specializing in pepper and spice products./.
