A special art program of water puppetry and national music was organized by the ALEDI Association (Children of Indochina - Les Enfants de l'Indochine) and the Hanoi Vietnam Performing Arts Water Puppetry Co. Ltd from December 1 - 4 in Paris to promote Vietnam’s traditional culture and raise funds for disadvantaged children in remote mountainous areas of Vietnam.

The program featured performed stories about the daily life of farmers in rural villages, fairy tales, or legends in the typical countryside of Vietnam through the art of water puppetry, which attracted the audience, particularly overseas Vietnamese and local people in France.

In addition, the program also featured folk music performances, which are heritages recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) such as Tuong (classical opera), Chau Van (trance ritual singing), and Hau Dong (the spirit medium).

Trieu Vinh Van, Chairman of the ALEDI Association, said the event aims not only to popularize Vietnamese culture, but also to contribute to enhancing cultural exchange between the two peoples.

All the raised money, after covering the expense of the performance, will be contributed to ALEDI fund to help disadvantaged children in remote mountainous areas of Vietnam.

Water puppet shows and national performances not only introduce to international friends the traditional beauty of Vietnam, but also contribute to the richness and diversity of the world's cultural treasures. The puppeteers and artists are very special itinerant cultural ambassadors of Vietnam./.
