At the event, Consul General of Vietnam in Battambang Le Tuan Khanh sent best happy new year wishes to the Vietnamese community in the region.
On this occasion, he also highlighted Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in 2020. In the context of the world and region being seriously impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, strict and flexible management and operation of the government, with the whole national great solidarity spirit, Vietnam has overcome difficulties and challenges, well controlled the pandemic situation, maintained political and social stability, strengthened national defense-security and expanded foreign affairs.
In 2020, neighboring relations between Vietnam and Cambodia were promoted in all fields; political relations increasingly go into depth. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visits between the two sides cannot be carried out, but the phone calls were still regularly held, making a practical contribution to the construction and development of each country.
Particularly, the two sides have approved and issued a set of border maps, and legal documents recognizing the results of demarcation of land border markers between the two countries. This is a very important legal basis for the people of the two countries to jointly build a border for peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development.
Economic, cultural and education cooperation faces certain difficulties, but trade exchange between the two countries in 2020 reached 5.3 billion USD; Vietnam is now the fifth largest investor in Cambodia with 216 projects with a total registered capital of over 3.2 billion USD.
Speaking at the meeting, Consul General Le Tuan Khanh praised and highly appreciated the solidarity spirit of the Executive Board of the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Battambang province. He also highlighted Vietnamese businesses in the locality for their effective operation, practically contributing to developing the economy of the local country; boosting friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as maintaining good images of Vietnamese business and entrepreneurs among local people.
Over the past year, Vietnamese businesses, especially Metfone company in provinces in Cambodia, accompanied the Consulate General of Vietnam in supporting the community to overcome difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and floods.
On the same day, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Battambang, in cooperation with the branch of the Khmer-Vietnam Association and Metfone Company in the province, presented gifts to 50 poor households on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Festival./.
