Visits to Vietnam by foreign leaders in 2020

The visits of leaders of Laos, the Republic of Korea and Japan to Vietnam in 2020 has demonstrated the safe and effective response of Vietnam to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Positive signals from Japanese Prime Minister’s visit to Vietnam

Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and a high-level delegation of the Government of Laos visited Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc from July 5-6, 2020. This was the first visit to Vietnam by foreign senior leaders after the outbreak of COVID-19.
The visit of the Lao Prime Minister to Vietnam came after both countries successfully controlled the COVID-19 pandemic, in which Vietnam did not report any new cases of infection for nearly 3 months and was in good control of the pandemic and was appreciated by the world. Meanwhile, the Government of Laos officially declared the victory of the first phase COVID-19 campaign. Pictured are talks between the Vietnamese and Lao Prime Ministers.
From December 4-6, 2020, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith co-chaired the 43rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, in which 17 cooperation agreements were signed.
On December 6, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong received a high-level delegation of the Lao Government led by Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.
From October 18-20, 2020, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide visited Vietnam one month after taking office. This was Mr. Suga Yoshihide's first overseas trip as Prime Minister of Japan. The Prime Minister of Japan had many important activities in Vietnam, including greeting Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide witnessed the exchange of 12 signed documents between the ministries, branches, localities and businesses of the two countries with a total value of nearly USD4 billion.
At the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Park Byeong-Seug and her wife and senior delegation of the Korean National Assembly visited Vietnam from October 31 to November 4 . This was the first official visit to Vietnam by National Assembly Chairman Park Byeong-Seug as Chairman of the 21st Korean National Assembly, since taking office on June 5, 2020.
Chairman of the Korean National Assembly Park Byeong-Seug paid a courtesy visit to Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong.
On November 2, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Chairman of the Korean National Assembly Park Byeong-Seug. The two sides agreed to increase cooperation for raising trade turnover from USD68 billion in 2019 to the target of USD100 billion soon./.
