​Northern province saves expenditure and spends maximum resources for fighting COVID-19

The 16th session of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Council was recently held to discuss and decide important issues in the context of the peak period of COVID-19 pandemic prevention, while ensuring social welfare and socio-economic stability in the province.

This is an online meeting connecting 15 points across Quang Ninh province to ensure safety for the participants amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. 

Notably, due to the complicated development of the epidemic, the Quang Ninh provincial People's Council agreed to save expenditures that are not really necessary and spend the maximum resources for the epidemic prevention and control in the peak period of performing the dual task: fighting the epidemic while ensure social security and socio-economic development.

Specifically, employees from poor and near-poverty-line households with permanent residence in the province who lost their jobs; government officials and employees, who work for public agencies and must take unpaid leave due to the impact of COVID-19, will be supported 1 million VND/person/month in three months in cash from April 2020. Those who are health quarantined or participate in forces to prevent and control the epidemic, will be supported meals, essential supplies according to current regulations.

The Quang Ninh provincial People's Council agreed to make a deduction of 4% of the total budget expenditure and reduce 600 billion VND from non-business expenses as reserve resources for the COVID-19 prevention and control in the locality.

In addition, the Quang Ninh provincial People's Council also adopted a number of social welfare policies relating to children and fishing village students who migrate ashore; housing support for revolution contributors; discussing and commenting on a number of other issues aimed at solving difficulties for businesses, especially the coal industry, to ensure production maintenance and life stability of employees./.
