Vietnam physics strives to be ranked in top 5 of ASEAN

The Prime Minister has issued the program on the development of physics for the 2021-2025 period, targeting to have the country’s physics field ranked among the top 5 countries in the ASEAN region, according to SCOPUS ratings.

The program's objective is to improve Vietnam's science and technology potential in physics, combining high-quality training with basic research and application-oriented basic research, and linking theoretical research with experimental research and applied research.

It also aims to improve the scientific research capacity of physics lecturers at universities nationwide, and attract and train talented young physicists. By 2025, over 50% of physics lecturers in physics faculties of key universities will have doctoral degrees.

At the same time, the program targets to improve the position of Vietnam's physics in the world, striving to have the country's physics field ranked among the top 5 countries in ASEAN according to SCOPUS ratings by 2020 and increase the number of works published in prestigious international journals to 30% per year on average.

To achieve these objectives, the State orders the construction of national science and technology tasks in the field of application-oriented physics associated with a number of key technologies of industry 4.0.

At the same time, the country will encourage physics lecturers in universities to promote their research; promote the training of students, masters, and doctors in physics; have a scholarship policy for students, students with good physics, students winning national and international prizes; invest in building and upgrading a number of physics laboratories in universities and research institutes with postgraduate training in physics; and strengthen international cooperation to develop the physics industry./.
