136,000 tons of rice taken to support people in difficulty

According to the General Department of State Reserves, from August 16 to October 8, the State Reserves took over 136,300 tons of national reserve rice, according to the Prime Minister's decisions, to support people in need due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The department’s branches in the southeastern and southwestern regions have shipped nearly 4,118 tons of rice to Binh Phuoc, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang Provinces.

Meanwhile, over 1,847 tons of rice have been allocated to Quang Nam and Quang Ngai Provinces, over 208.8 tons to Gia Lai Province and over 75,413 tons to 9 southern localities.

With the motto of ensuring rice support to the people as soon as possible, the General Department of State Reserves has coordinated with the Provincial and City People's Committees to receive rice support and rice suppliers have plans to export, transport, deliver and receive rice in accordance with the receiving plan of districts, towns and cities.

In particular, the allocation of rice to Ho Chi Minh City to fight the pandemic under the direction of the Prime Minister has been completed. More than 71,000 tons of national reserve rice has been handed over to 22 localities of the city.

According to the leader of the General Department of State Reserves, the timely release of national reserve goods for pandemic prevention and control is among important political tasks, especially in the context of the prolonged development of the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing./.
