Over 4,000 people walk to raise funds for poor

Over 4,000 athletes who are leaders and former leaders of Ho Chi Minh city’s Phu Nhuan district, labourers from businesses in the city, cadres and officers, as well as people in the district, on November 22 joined a walk of over 3.2 kilometres to donate over VND8.6 billion for the poor to welcome the upcoming lunar New Year festival (Tet).

Organized by the district Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front, this was the 18th event of its kind organized annually in the district.  

Attendants included Nguyen Ho Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee and Head of the city Party Committee Commission of Organization; and To Thi Bich Chau, President of the city Fatherland Front. 

At the opening ceremony, the organizers received over VND8.6 billion from businesses, unions, religious foundations, cadres and officers, as well as the armed forces across 15 wards. 

Throughout its 18 events, the program received over VND89 billion to build and repair houses, present scholarships to poor pupils, and give medical insurance to those who live near the poverty line.  

In particular, the donation has been spent helping the poor prepare for Tet, contributing to realizing the sustainable poverty reduction program./.
