Over 6.7 million people in Ho Chi Minh City vaccinated against COVID-19

Ho Chi Minh City has administered COVID-19 vaccines to over 6.7 million people, including over 6.1 million receiving their first dose and over 592,000 receiving their second dose, said Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Head of the City Health Department, during a press briefing of the City Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control on September 7.

He added that the Ministry of Health has provided an additional 1 million doses for second doses to Ho Chi Minh City’s people, and the city is also organizing injections at a very fast rate. The city will direct the health sector to coordinate with other departments and organize a peak vaccination campaign for the coming days.

According to Mr. Nam, the previous pandemic prevention and control prioritized treatment and tracing of F0, but at present it will be a priority to vaccinate people, so that they have enough antibodies to fight the pandemic and gradually accelerate the economic recovery.

Regarding social welfare work, Pham Duc Hai, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control, said the city welfare center has allocated over 1.6 million welfare bags among 2 million. Meanwhile, Over 10,500 presents have been provided in emergency cases, and over 85,000 rental house owners have agreed to reduce or exempt fees for 670,000 rooms with over VND329 billion.

“Care for people has been carried out synchronously by agencies, so that no one faces food shortages,” said Mr. Hai.

As of the morning of September 6, Ho Chi Minh City reported 259,055 COVID-19 cases, with 128,396 having been discharged from hospital since the beginning of this year./.
