Over VND1 billion in support of clean water project for poor community in Ben Tre Province

(CPV) - ADM Animal Nutrition Vietnam (ADM) and Aid for social protection program Foundation Vietnam (AFV) have collaborated to hold the project “Clean water for poor communities in Ben Tre” to support poor farm households overcome the negative impacts from droughts and saltwater intrusion in Mo Cay Nam District, Ben Tre Province.

The project result was reviewed during a ceremony on November 23 in Ben Tre Province.

This project has been implemented since August 2021 with two main activities, including installing water tank systems for disadvantaged households and organizing small seminars to educate farmers on the best usage methods in water conservation and management. Accordingly, 218 disadvantaged households in Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province has been trained on water saving and water resource management, and presented with 218 water tanks of 2,000 liters each, using a total capital of VND1.15 billion.

The project "Clean water for poor communities in Ben Tre" is part of the annual community-oriented activities of ADM Cares fund, which is expected to provide all necessary equipment to help citizens at district in storing freshwater, as well as minimizing all impacts from the annual drought and saltwater intrusion, thereby improving their quality of life. 

Sharing about this clean water project, Mr. Gerald Franz Wilflingseder, President of ADM Animal Nutrition Asia Pacific, said that ADM’s corporate social investment program, ADM Cares, aligns the Company’s corporate giving with its business strategies and sustainability objectives. Through the program, ADM works to sustain and strengthen its commitment to communities where ADM colleagues work, live, and operate by directing funding to initiatives and organizations driving meaningful social, economic, and environmental progress. “Therefore, we always accompany non-profit organizations to be able to implement practical and meaningful programs in three strategic areas, including Promoting Sustainable Agriculture Programs, Increasing Food Security, and Investing in Education around the globe,” he said. “And this clean water project is one of the activities for the community that we want to target.”

Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Do Hoang Minh, Vice Chairman of Mo Cay Nam District People's Committee confirmed that the clean water project has practical significance for poor farm households in the district who lack water storage facilities, and serves as a premise for further community-based projects. “This project has also added motivation and encouragement to help local authorities overcome difficulties caused by natural disasters,” he added.

He also expressed his sincere thanks to the precious affections of ADM Group and AFV Groups for their concern and sharing of difficulties with the community in Mo Cay Nam District in the face of saline intrusion. “In particular, the valuable support of units and businesses will actively contribute to the prevention of natural disasters, especially in the prevention of drought and salinity in the locality,” he went on to say.

This clean water project is not only an affirmation of ADM’s commitment in community development efforts, but also sets the stage for further support initiatives, towards building sustainable livelihoods for the disadvantaged community across the country, thereby contributing to promote social progress, economic progress and together creating a better life./.
