Vietnam among ten countries with world’s lowest unemployment rates

Vietnam’s unemployment rate remains at 2.48%, with that in urban areas kept below 4%, becoming one of the 10 countries in the world reporting the lowest unemployment rates, statistics by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) reveal.

The statistic was put forth during an online national meeting of the ministry to review the work in 2020 and carry out the work in 2021.

Over the past 5 years, the entire sector has consistently implemented goals and tasks, creating breakthroughs and making outstanding marks. "In 5 years, the country creates new jobs for more than 8 million workers; more than 635,000 people go to work abroad under contracts, exceeding 27% of the target," MOLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung said.

According to the minister, social security has been ensured, national defense and security, foreign affairs have achieved many positive results; Vietnam’s prestige and position have been raised. Currently, only 3% of the Vietnamese population and 100% of the social protection beneficiaries are eligible for regular benefits; while the elderly and people with disabilities are given care and support according to regulations.

He added that the basic rights of children are ensured. The Human Development Index (HDI) of Vietnam is in the highly developed group, at 110th out of 189 countries. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s human resource index ranks second in Southeast Asia.

"Vietnam is one of 30 countries applying the multidimensional poverty line, reporting the results of rapid multidimensional poverty reduction, with the rate reducing by 1,35% per year, from 9.88% in 2015 to 2.75% in 2020, reaching the target 10 years ahead of the millennium goal,” Minister Dung went on to say.

Along with that, labor mobility in the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector decreased from 45% in 2015 to 32% in 2020.

In implementing the Government’s resolutions and decisions, the Government and localities during the COVID-19 pandemic have supported VND31.5 trillion to ensure life and support jobs for people and workers.

“Up to now, the labor situation and employment have returned to a normal state,” the minister affirmed./.
