(CPV) - Five Vietnam destinations: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Da Nang, Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) and Hoi An (Quang Nam), have won Travelers’ Choice Awards 2020 of the US online booking website TripAdvisor.

Travelers’ Choice Awards is the highest title of TripAdvisor. The awards are based on a combination of all reviews, ratings and archives that travelers across the globe share about hotels, destinations, landmarks, brands and products.

According to the list of voters, Hanoi and Hoi An ranked 15th and 17th among the world’s 25 most popular destinations, respectively.

For Hanoi, TripAdvisor said: “The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside.”

Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest.

For Hoi An, the website said that this city on the central Vietnamese coast is a well-preserved example of the important Southeast Asian trading port it was from the 15th-19th centuries.

The central hub is becoming better known to tourists. “On the 14th day of each lunar month, the town trades its electric lights for traditional colored lanterns.”

The website also placed Da Nang at 7th and Ho Chi Minh city at 12th positions among the world’s 25 trending destinations.

The central city was described as laid-back and friendly destination. “Culinary tours are a hugely popular way to experience literal local flavor. After you’ve stuffed yourself with bold noodle soups and savory street foods, walk it off by exploring the limestone caves and Buddhist grottos of the Marble Mountains,” said the website.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh city is described as Vietnam's bustling largest city, setting the cultural and economic pace for the country. “The former Saigon boasts charming French colonial architecture and wide boulevards, usually thronged and choked with traffic. Taxis are an option for seeing the sprawling city.”
