The Ben Tre provincial People’s Committee, in collaboration with the Plant Protection Department and Chanh Thu Fruit Import-Export Group Joint Stock Company, has announced the plan to export the first batch of green-skinned pomelo to the US market.

General Director of Chanh Thu Fruit Import and Export Group Joint Stock Company Ngo Tuong Vy said that the unit has coordinated with 3 cooperatives to build a raw material area to prepare for the first shipment to the US.

As planned, the first shipment will include 2 containers of green-skinned pomelos by sea and 2-3 tons by air to the market.

Currently, Ben Tre has an area of about 9,440 hectares of green-skinned pomelo with an annual output of nearly 90,000 tons. The Mekong Delta province has 12 growing area codes with 170ha in Chau Thanh district and 3 packing facilities for export to countries, including the US.

The export of the first batch of Vietnamese green-skinned pomelo to the US is expected to boost the growing of the fruit in Ben Tre Province, while remaining in line with standard practices so as to produce safe products with consistent quality.

The export of the first batch of green-skinned pomelo from Vietnam to the US will be conducted at the end of November 2022./.
