In a recent working with the company, Chairman Tran Ngoc Tam asked provincial departments and branches to coordinate with Chanh Thu to well prepare for the announcement ceremony of exporting the first shipment of green-skinned pomelo, scheduled in September 2022.

The company has linked and coordinated with 5 cooperatives producing green skin pomelos in the province to ensure quality raw materials for export.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Tam also noted that it is necessary to do the communication work well at home and abroad; focus on expanding planting areas, developing more material areas to maintain export volume; and ensure design and quality, with area code.

Ben Tre now has more than 26,000 hectares of fruit trees, with an annual output of about 300,000 tons. Particularly, the pomelo area reaches 9,440 ha with an annual output of nearly 90,000 tons.

Green-skinned pomelo is Vietnam’s 7th fruit entering the US. Only 6 types of fresh fruit of Vietnam exported to this market have brought in a turnover of about 20 million USD per year.

According to the Plant Protection Department, in order to export fruit to the United States, it is necessary to meet three main standards, including: The planting area must meet the standards and be authorized by the US side to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to assign the Department of Plant Protection to grant codes for planting areas; the packing plant must be assigned a code by a US expert; and products must be irradiated at a factory with a standard code number./.
