CPI rises 0.4% in September

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September 2022 increased by 0.4% from the previous month, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The main reason is the increase in price of essential consumer goods and services in line with prices of input materials and tuition fees in some localities for the 2022-2023 school year.

This month’s CPI rose by 4.01% compared to December 2022 and increased by 3.94% compared to the same period last year. In the first nine months of the year, the price index soared 2.73% year on year.

This month, 9 groups of goods saw price increases against the previous month. Specifically, restaurants and catering services rose by 0.18%; beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.13%; garment, hat and footwear group surged by 0.16%; housing and construction materials group went up by 0.94%; and household appliances group increased by 0.16%.

The education group increased by 5.84% due to the opening of the new school year, leading to many related costs on a large scale. Culture, entertainment and tourism rose by 0.03% and  other goods and services soared by 0.14%.

Two groups enjoyed price reduction, including transport by 2.23%, due to continuous decrease in gasoline price, and post and telecommunication by 0.04%.

Compared to the previous month, the gold price index in September decreased by 1.71% and the US dollar price index increased by 0.53%./.
